Network Folder Function

  What is Network Folder Function?

  PLEXTALK Pocket has wireless LAN capability. You can access an SD card in your PLEXTALK Pocket from your computer via wireless LAN as if the SD card is one of the folders on your computer. For example, you can drag and drop any files on your computer to the SD card without connecting your Pocket via USB.

  Can I connect my PLEXTALK Pocket with any wireless network, for example, in a hot spot of a hotel or an airport?

  PLEXTALK Pocket offers simple wireless connectivity for your home or office network,, where you do not need to input a password on a web browser like Internet Explorer. Hot spots that ask you to input passwords on a web browser can not be connected to your Pocket.

  How can I use the Network Folder Function?

  First of all, the firmware of your PLEXTALK Pocket must be version 4.04 or later. Please check the system version on your Pocket using the System Property selection of System Settings in the Menu system. For more information, please read the Pocket Tutorial NetworkFolder Mar2011.doc.

  What computer operation systems does this function support?

  The Utility Software supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. To access the Network folder of Pocket from Windows Vista and Windows 7, you need to configure the network security setting of Windows OS. For more details, please read Section 2 "Set LAN manager authentication level of windows PC" of the Pocket Tutorial NetworkFolder Mar2011.doc.

  What is LAN manager authentication level?

  This is one of the LAN security settings of Windows OS, particularly Windows Vista and 7. You have to change the network security policy of your Windows OS to access your PLEXTALK Pocket via a network. Technically speaking, you have to have your Windows accept NTLM response from a device on your network. You may need to contact your network administrator when you want to change this setting to connect your Pocket.
  You do not have to change this setting when you use Windows XP or 2000.

  I can’t use the Network Folder function. How can I find a cause and solve the problem?

  File transfer error message shows up during file transfer to PTP1. Network connection is disconnected during file transfer. Did this break the SD card on my Pocket?

  When the network connection is cut during file transfer and Windows OS will pop up a error message, the file entry on a SD card may have been broken. This broken file entry has occupied a certain memory area of the SD card and decreases the size of vacant memory. If you want to erase this entry to get more vacant memory, you can try the ‘Check disk’ function on Windows OS. For more information about the Check disk function, please see 1.4 of NetworkFolder_Trouble_Shooting_Guide.doc. Otherwise, you must copy all the files on your SD card to your computer then try to format the SD card.

  After file transfer, it looks to me that SD card remaining size is wrong or smaller than I imagined. How can I check this?
• A.1-9
  It seems that a file entry on a SD card has collapsed and has occupied a certain memory area of the SD card and decreased the size of vacant memory. If you want to erase this entry to get more vacant memory, you can try the ‘Check disk’ function on Windows OS. For more information about the Check disk function, please see 1.4 of NetworkFolder_Trouble_Shooting_Guide.doc. You must copy all the files on your SD card to your computer then try to format the SD card.

  A file I deleted is still shown in a network folder on my computer. How can I delete the file in a correct manner?
• A.1-10
  We expect this can be ‘Read-only’ file. If you want to delete that file, first please right click or press the Shift key and F10 key together on that file to open the Properties dialog box. On the General tab of this dialog box, please clear the Read-only check box and click OK or Apply button. Now you have changed the Read-only attribute of that file. Then please try to delete this file in the network folder. This method is also applied when you want delete a folder in a network folder.

  How fast can I transfer a file on this Network Folder function?

  File transfer speed is about 2.5Mbit/sec (Windows XP. WPA2 AES) depending on environments.

• Q.1-12
  How long can I use the Network Folder with fully charged battery?
• A.1-12
  The Network Folder function consume additional power. You can continue to transfer files between your Pocket and your computer for about four hours with a fully charged battery.

• Q.1-13
  I cannot log onto the PTP1 even by using correct device name.
• A.1-13
  Please confirm network connection between PTP1. Open CMD.exe and try ping command.
  
• Please try ping with both the device name and IP address e.g. >ping.PTP1-1234 or .ping 127.127.2.107
  
• If connecting, the command should show 4 packets sent and 4 received You can confirm the IP address of PTP1 by "Confirm network information" option of the network setting menu.
  
• If ping command fails, please cancel the Network Folder function and turn the power of PTP1 off and on again. Then try the connection again.
  

• Q.1-14
  I cannot log onto the PTP1 even by using correct device name. I have changed Network folder
• A.1-14
  After changing Network folder name, user ID, password, you need to log off and log on the PC to refresh the network folder service of the PC.

• Q.1-15
  I cannot log onto the PTP1 even by using correct device name. I am typing a device name only to open up the PTP1.

  To log on to PTP1, please type the device name and folder name of SD memory. For example, ¥¥PTP1-1234¥SDmemory.

• Q.1-16
  SD card remaining memory capacity is too small.
• A.1-16
  If the file entry of the SD card is broken, it causes a reduction in the remaining size of the SD card. It is due to the broken file entry occupying available memory. If you notice the SD card remaining size is too small, please confirm the error of the SD card by using Check Disk function.

  How can I check an error on the SD card?

  Windows PC has a Check Disk function. It can confirm and recover the error of the SD card. Please refer to the section of Appendix "Check disk function" in this manual.

• Q.1-18
  A file that has been removed still shows in the Network folder.
• A.1-18
  If the attribute of the file is Read Only, it cannot be deleted. Please confirm the property of the file, and remove the check of Read Only attribute.
  

2. USB Connection

• Q.2-1
  My computer does not identify my PLEXTALK Pocket that is connected via USB as a removable drive. How can I correct this?
• A.2-1
  Please try the following methods:
  
  1. Make sure that your computer is Windows2000, XP, Vista or 7.
  2. First connect your Pocket to AC Adapter power and turn on your Pocket, then connect it to your computer via USB.
  3. Connect your Pocket to your computer directly if your Pocket is currently connected to a USB hub.
  4. If still not recognized, connect your Pocket to another USB port on your computer, if available.
  5. If still not recognized, use another USB cable to connect your Pocket to your computer.
  6. If you try all the above and still do not succeed it, please reboot your Pocket by either of the methods below. (These steps cause the embedded OS to restart.)
  1. After you turn off your Pocket with the Power Key and remove the AC adapter from it, please take your battery out of the battery box at the back side your Pocket, insert it again and press the Power Key to turn on your Pocket.
  2. While your Pocket is power on, please slide the Key Lock Key upward to lock the keys. After that, please press and hold the Power Key for more than ten seconds. When you release your finger from the Power Key, your Pocket will be turned off automatically. Then please slide the Key Lock Key downward to unlock the keys and press the Power Key to turn on your Pocket.

3. Audible.com

• Q.3-1
  How do I play Audible.com books on my Plextalk Pocket? When I copy the books and try to play them they are not readable.

  Go to www.audible.com.
  

  At the very bottom of the Home page, select the link to “device center”.
  - Select the link for “other”.
  - In the drop down box for “Select Device Brand”, choose “Plextalk”.

  - Select the Pocket PTP1 and download/install the manager software.

  
  After purchasing your book and selecting “download” from “My library”, the Audible download manager will automatically launch and begin the download.
  Connect the Pocket to the PC. When the download is complete, it launches the AudibleManager interface.
  The Pocket should show up in the left lower pane of the manager software under “Mobile Devices”.
  The book will be in the top center pane.
  

  
  Either
  1) select the book and drag and drop to the lower pane,
  2) choose the “Device” drop down menu, select “Add to PTP1″ (Crtl+T), or
  3) select the book and press the “Add to device” button in the upper right of the manager screen.
  It should move the book to the lower pane. It is now in the Pocket Audible folder.

  The book is a single file and MUST be in the Audible folder. It ‘can’ be in a sub folder within the Audible folder if desired.

4. Supported formats

  My Pocket can not play an MS-Word DOCX file.
• A.4-1
  The Pocket can not play a DOC file in the following cases:
  - the file is on a CD,
  - the SD card or the USB flash memory has little free space or
  - the SD card or the USB flash memory is locked.
  First copy the DOCX file to an SD card or a USB flash memory (thumb drive) that is unlocked and play that file.

  My Pocket can not play an MS-Word DOC file.

  The Pocket can not play a DOC file on a CD. Copy the DOC file to an SD card or a USB flash memory (thumb drive) to play.

• Q.4-3
  My Pocket can not play a WMA music file.

  The Pocket can not play WMA with digital rights management (DRM).

5. Wireless network connection

• Q.5-1
  How long can I operate the Pocket if I am connecting to the network folder?
• A.5-1
  You can use up to 4 hours.

• Q.5-2
  How long can I operate the Pocket if I keep streaming web radio?
• A.5-2
  You can use up to 4 hours.

• Q.5-3
  I want to know the IP address of my Pocket
• A.5-3
  You can confirm the IP address at the "Confirm network information" option of the network setting menu.

• Q.5-4
  My Pocket does not select the desired access point.
• A.5-4
  You can check with the list of available access points at the "wireless network setting" option of the network setting menu. If your Pocket does not find an access point, first confirm whether the network device is turned ON.When the access point is announced on the list, please check the priority of the access point. You can change the priority at the "Set highest priority and connect" option of the network setting menu.

  My Pocket failed to find an access point. I am using an access point that supports IEEE802.11a

  The Pocket only supports IEEE802.11b/g. If your access point cannot use IEEE802.11a and IEEE802.11b/g at the same time, please make the access point use only IEEE802.11b/g.

• Q.5-6
  My Pocket failed to connect to an access point. I am using non broadcasted SSID.
• A.5-6
  Non-broadcasted SSID requires a litte time until the Pocket establishes a connection. Please wait about 5 minutes. When you change the setting of the access point to ‘broadcast the SSID name’ and you succeed in connecting, the problem may be in the non-broadcast setting. Otherwise, the wireless security setting may have incorrect settings.

• Q.5-7
  My Pocket failed to connect to an access point. I am using DHCP.
• A.5-7
  The error may occur when:
  - a DHCP server on your home network or office network is not running
  - a DHCP server does not have available IP addresses to lend to your Pocket, or
  - Network connection time out has occurred before the IP address is sent from a DHCP server to your Pocket.
  Try the following steps.
• Step1: Reboot the DHCP server.
  Step 2: Reboot the wireless router.
  Step 3: Restart your Pocket and try the connection.

• Q.5-8
  It failed to connect the access point. I am using MAC address filtering.
• A.5-8
  If the MAC address filtering on the access point is enabled and the access point refuses your Pocket, you need to add the MAC address of your Pocket to the access point. You can get the MAC address of your Pocket at the "Confirm network information" option of the network setting menu.

• Q.5-9
  My Pocket always tries to connect to an SSID that is not available. I have configured Stealth SSID settings.

  When you have configured a network setting with Stealth SSID enabled. PLEXTALK always tries the connection to stealth (= non broadcasted SSID). Please set Stealth SSID access point to low priority in the list of wireless settings.

• Q.5-10
  The Pocket cannot connect to the network service. I am using WEP security with Fixed IP address.

  When you are using WEP security with fixed IP address setting, the Pocket will succeed in connecting to the access point even it has a wrong password. Please confirm WEP password again.

• Q.5-11
  Does PLEXTALK support WPS (WIFI Protected Setup)?

  WPS is not supported. You need to configure the network setting manually.

• Q.5-12
  It failed to connect to the access point.

  Please try and restart the access point and the Pocket

6. Podcast receiver

  Does the Pocket support video podcasts?

  The Pocket supports audio podcasts.

  What audio formats does the Pocket support for podcasts?

  MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV and AMR.

  How long does it take to download an episode?
• A.6-3
  If the size of an episode you are going to download is 5MB (mega bytes), the fastest is about twenty seconds. This time varies depending on the bandwidth of your home or office network and its traffic.

• Q.6-4
  In what cases is downloading aborted?
• A.6-4
  The Pocket aborts downloading in the following cases:
  - you shut down your Pocket by the Power Key,
  - you shut down your Pocket by the Sleep Timer,
  - the battery power has been drained,
  - you have connected your Pocket to your computer via USB,
  - you have started the Network Folder,
  - you formatted the SD card,
  - you have ejected the SD card, or – A network error occurs.

  My Pocket suddenly aborted downloading and shut down automatically.
• A.6-5
  Sleep timer function works during downloading. Verify the sleep timer function is not enabled.

• Q.6-6
  I ejected the SD card during downloading. Are there any problems?
• A.6-6
  We strongly recommend NOT ejecting the SD card during downloading. If you eject the SD card during downloading, the file entry of the SD card may be corrupted. Check the SD card by using Check disk function on your computer.

• Q.6-7
  How can I check the status of the downloading?
• A.6-7
  You can check the status by pressing the 5 Key. You can hear the following information:
  - Name of the episode you are downloading
  - Progress of the downloading
  - Number of the remaining episodes and
  - Any errors on the downloading.

• Q.6-8
  My Pocket does not start downloading and announces the following error massage: "There is an episode that can not be downloaded."

  This error occurs in case a folder where your Pocket is going to save the podcast feed is located under 8 layers from the root or more, or in case the folder name is too long. Make the folder name shorter or move that folder to a less-layered folder.

• Q.6-9
  A write error occurs while downloading a podcast.
• A.6-9
  An error has occurred while your Pocket was writing data on the SD card and the downloading has been aborted. Delete downloaded episodes on the SD card and download it again. If the same error often occurs, replace the SD card.

7. Web radio streaming

  What type of play list does the Pocket support?

  PLS, M3U, ASX. The Pocket does not support a Play list file written in UTF16.

  What audio format does the Pocket support for web radio streaming?

  Audio stream: MP3 by HTTP, WMA by HTTP or MMS.

  My Pocket often suspends streaming web radio.

  If network transfer throughput is slow, the Pocket may suspend streaming.

  The Record Key does not work during web radio streaming.

  The Pocket does not allow recording or voice memo during web radio streaming.

  I can not stream some of the web radio stations.

  The Pocket sometimes can not stream web radio that is live encoded by Windows Media Encoder.
  

• Q.7-6
  My Pocket does not start streaming and announces the following error massage: "Web Radio URL is not available."

  This error occurs when:
  -The stream of the station is not supported by the Pocket,
  -The streaming of this station is suspended for some reason, or.
  the connection to the station is crowded. Please press the Play/Stop Key to try the streaming again.

  My Pocket aborts streaming with the following message: "Radio stream is not available."

  This error occurs when:
  Your Pocket has lost Internet connection for some reasons, or your Pocket does not communicate with the web radio server for more than 30 seconds for some reason. Please press the Play/Stop Key and try the streaming again.
